NetGator firmware and web UI update instructions
Redistributable software components and subsystems
Currently, the NetGator accepts updates only via TFTP (Trivial File
Trasnsfer Protocol) protocol, so there must be at least one TFTP server
accessible to it in the intranet or globally on the Internet. If your
NetGator unit can access Internet, point it to Darim Vision's TFTP
server at 210.222.254.123. In that case you may skip the
next section and proceed with the update procedure.
Alternatively, you can access a local TFTP server operating inside your
intranet. TFTP server application for Windows 98/Me/NT4 SP6/2000/XP is
included in our NetGator software. If you do not have the full NetGator
software set, download and launch the
setup.exe, select "custom" setup type, and choose TFTP server.
Get the latest files:
The NetGator embedded software consists of two parts: the boot image
("firmware") and the file archive. The file archive contains the web
intewrface and additional software components. Usually several versions
of web interface are available for each NetGator model. The latest
versions of both parts are included in the NetGator software set. You
can download and launch the
setup.exe,, and select "Administrator" setup
type. All required files and documentation would be downloaded and
installed on your computer. File names may vary from time to time, so
check with the NetGator software
readme file for the currently available
boot images and archives.
Updating NetGator:
Attach the serial cable that comes with NetGator to COM1 on the Netgator
box and to any available COM port on your PC. Then, start the
HyperTerminal program (available in any version of Windows). Create a
new connection called "NetGator" with the following parameters: 38400
bps, 8 data bits, NO parity, 1 stop bit, Xon/Xoff flow control. (see the
User Guide for more information). Once connected, make sure that the
desired TFTP server is accessible, by typing:
ping <IP address of the TFTP server>
If the PINGing was sucessful,
proceed with updating the NetGator's file archive by typing:
ldf <IP address of the TFTP server> NNN.tgz
where NNN is the name of appropriate file archive (see the list of available archives
in the
readme file).
Answer Yes to all questions only if there is no warnings printed.
Then update the NetGator's boot image by typing:
flash <IP address of the TFTP server> xxx-NNN.bin
where NNN is the model of NetGator device, i.e. 50, 54, or 100, and xxx
denotes the boot image version (see the list of available boot images in
the
readme file). The NetGator will be automatically rebooted following
this command.
Alternatively, you may upgrade NetGator via the telnet session, not using
serial connection to it. The commands remain the same.
